Dangerous chemicals eliminated from the entire supply chain

Our goal is to completely eliminate potentially dangerous chemicals
from our supply chain - and not only in the finished product - by 2030.

For this reason, we have added a section to our Code of Conduct where we have asked our suppliers to follow the Zero Discharge of Hazardous Chemicals (ZDHC) guidelines, which provide for the elimination of all potentially dangerous substances from all processing phases and from waste water.

In 2021 we also finished mapping our wet processing plants and we aim to test 100% of the waste water from our suppliers’ plants for potentially toxic substances by 2025.

Sandblasting

We have already eliminated the sandblasting technique, a manual treatment that is highly dangerous for the workers, that consists in blasting the fabric with high-pressure sand particles to give jeans the typical worn effect.

Potassium permanganate

Since 2019, 100% of our denim is made without potassium permanganate, a substance that is toxic for mankind and the environment. To give denim an aged effect, we only use treatments that are safe for the workers, such as laser technology or biodegradable enzymes.

Dyeing

The traditional denim production methods require vast quantities of water. Thanks to an innovative dyeing process that improved colour absorption and highly-efficient water treatment systems, we are able to reduce water consumption to a minimum in denim production. We have in fact done from the 6-8 dyeing and oxidation cycles necessary to obtain the ideal shade in the case of traditional denim, to a single application of a short dyeing period, with savings of:
